Scores may manually be inputted into Orion using a specially formatted Excel file. This file is referred to as the "Excel Import File."
Importing scores from an Excel Import File works for any Orion rulebook and any course of fire. However, this feature is primarily intended to input scores into Orion from disciplines that Orion does not have scanable paper targets or scorecards, such as 900 aggregates for bullseye pistol.
Getting Started
Scopos recommends letting Orion generate a starter Excel Import File for your match (instead of trying to create one yourself from scratch). See "Generating an Excel Import File Starter File for instructions below. With the starter file, you may type in scores for your match. On saving the excel file, Orion will import the scores into your match.
Excel Import File
Manually entering scores must be enabled for each match. To do so, open Match Properties and on the Basics / Rulebook tab check the box labeled Allow Manual Entry of Scores.
In a Virtual Match, the parent must enable this feature for the children matches.
Orion can generate a starter Excel Import File that is pre-formatted and lists all current competitors in the match.
1.To generate a starter file, with an Orion match open, click on Match -> Generate Excel Import File.
2.Select the type of Event Type and Score Config you'd like to enter scores. Generally, either String or Series will be your best option.
oEvent: You'll enter scores for the aggregate.
oStage: You'll enters scores for each stage of a match (e.g. prone, kneeling, and standing).
oString: You'll enters scores typically for 10 shot strings. Not all courses of fire have Strings, and those that do, not all of them are 10 shots.
oSeries: You'll enters scores typically for 5 shot series. Not all courses of fire have Series, and those that do, not all of them are 5 shots.
oRound: You'll enters scores typically for 25 shot rounds (e.g. for shotgun). Not all courses of fire have Rounds, and those that do, not all of them are 25 shots.
oSingular: You'll enter scores for each individual shot. Generally not recommended.
3.This will both generate a starter file and open the file on your Windows system.
Type in the scores into the Excel Import File.
Hit save.
That's it, that's all there is to it. Updated ranked result lists will appear on the Match Results tab within a few seconds.
Orion can update an existing Excel Import File adding in new rows for competitors that are in the Orion match file but not yet in the Excel Import File.
To update a Excel Import File, first make sure the file is not open by any other process on your Windows system. Then click on Match -> Generate Excel Import File. This will add in new rows for competitors that are in Orion but not yet in the file. Orion does not modify existing rows.
•The import file must be named "excelImport.xslx." It lives in the same Match Directory as the match file. It must be saved using the Office Open XML SpreadsheetML File Format.
•Orion only reads scores from the first tab. The starter file names this tab "Marksmen Scores." Other tabs are ignored.
•The top row is the header row.
•The column labeled "Competitor Number" is for the marksmen's competitor number. Values in this row must match competitor numbers in the Orion match file.
•The column labeled "Display Name" is for reference only.
•Each Event can have up to three columns for score input.
o"[Event Name] - INT" is for entering integer scores.
o"[Event Name] - X" is for entering inner tens (Xs) scores.
o"[Event Name] - DEC" is for entering decimal scores.
Rules for Importing Scores
•All scores read from the Excel Import File are considered manually modified. This is regardless as to what originally generated the score (e.g. paper target scoring, ESTs, or random number generators).
•Scores read from the Excel Import File do not override scores inputted into Orion from scanned paper targets, scanned scorecards, or Athena. In fact, manually entered scores will be overwritten by scores from scanned paper targets, scanned scorecards, or Athena.
•Orion does not validate the scores read from the Excel Import File. If you type in bad data into the file, Orion will produce bad result lists.
•Orion matches scores read from the Excel Import File using the Competitor Number column. For the scores to be read into Orion there must be a Competitor with the same Competitor Number in the Orion match.
•Orion will import scores based on "Event," "Stage," "Series," "Stage," "Round," or "Singular" Event Type events, but only one. When reading in scores, it will use event names from the first Event Type it is able to identify. Because of this, Scopos recommends letting Orion generate a starter file to input scores (see above).
•Orion automatically reads scores from the Excel Import File after the file has been saved.
•Orion reads the imported scores based on events, but will store scores based on estimated shot values. For example, if a 10 shot series event had the inputted score of 85, Orion will store the shot scores as 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 8, 8, 8, 8, 8. This method could lead to incorrect tie breaking when scores of individual shots are considered.
•Manually entry of scores is prohibited during League games.
•In a Virtual Match (non-league game) the parent controls if manual entry of scores is allowed.
•Reentry matches are not supported.
•You need to a copy of Excel or a application that can edit Excel files.
