Network Time Protocol (NTP) is a well known protocol used by computers to synchronize their clocks. Athena devices use NTP for this purpose and to synchronize the range timer.

Athena Targets, Monitors, and Displays are configured to synchronize with the Network Manager. As a fallback they will synchronize with the Internet servers 0.us.pool.ntp.org and 1.us.pool.ntp.org.

The Network Manager, which runs its own NTP server, is configured to synchronize with the Internet servers  0.ubuntu.pool.ntp.org, 1.ubuntu.pool.ntp.org, 2.ubuntu.pool.ntp.org, 3.ubuntu.pool.ntp.org.

For better time synchronization results, clubs who host their own NTP server are encouraged to update the Network Manger's NTP configuration (visit Ubuntu's documentation on how to configure) to use their local NTP server as the primary server, and the Internet servers as a fallback.

Orion, which runs on Windows, requires the Windows OS to perform its own time synchronization. By default NTP is turned on by Windows and no further action is required. Visit Microsoft's website to learn how to force Windows to synchronize.
